Museums and Monuments

Spain has more than 1,500 museums from those famous worldwide to others less known, but of great cultural interest.

The majority of visitors to the Prado Museum in Madrid say that this museum and its works made their stay in Madrid worthwhile; one of the best museums in the world without a doubt.

During your excursions or trips you will find all kinds of museums scattered throughout the country.

Well-known museums other than the flagship Prado Museum are the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum (Madrid), Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao), Picasso Museum (Malaga), Dali Museum (Girona) and the Queen Sofia Museum (Madrid).

You will find unusual and amusing museums where you can experience past history or the near future, paleontology history, art, crafts, culture and extinct civilizations.

It is almost impossible to count the interesting monuments in our country. I cannot say for certain which is the flagship, the more fascinating, or the most beautiful. La Sagrada Familia (Barcelona), Alhambra (Granada), the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela (A Coruña) or City of Arts and Sciences (Valencia), the latter as an example of an architectural marvel of modern art, are the best known internationally and visited annually by millions of people.

Spain is number one worldwide in monuments and sites declared ‘World Heritage’ by UNESCO, which will give you an idea of the richness of this country as relates to villages and castles. Medieval buildings and Roman cathedrals and monasteries of all ages and centuries of incomparable beauty abound in our land.

An ideal country to be visited by history and culture lovers!
